| Eskdale is a beautiful unspoilt valley on the western side of the Lake District National Park. The river Esk runs down the valley, starting among the highest mountains in England and ending in Ravenglass on the coast. At the top of the valley are Hard Knot Roman Fort and the road over to Ambleside. Train and river run down to the small village of Eskdale Green and on to Ravenglass on the coast. Near to Ravenglass is Muncaster Castle with its famous gardens and Owl Centre. The Valley also has many excellent pubs with Real Ale and good food. |
