Duns lies just on the Scottish side of the border between Scotland and England. It is an excellent centre for touring, walking, fishing and cycling with most attractive countryside ranging from the flat farmland to the Lammermuir Hills, stretching north almost to Edinburgh, which can be reached in under an hour by car. The coast with its small fishing villages is only 15 miles away. The whole area is rich in history and has many stately homes, castles, museums and wild life parks. The main railway line from London to Edinburgh has a station at Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is only 16 miles away, and trains can usually be met, by arrangement.

We speak fairly fluent French, understandable German and a smattering of Dutch (not that this is necessary as most Dutchmen speak better English than we do!) Fluent Spanish, Italian and Danish speakers live within a few hundred yards and we can all struggle with Polish - this place is a veritable League of Nations. Menus are provided in French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, German and Swedish. I will produce Portuguese, Greek and Polish when I get round to it!
